A most useful post and publication proving how great a Marxist Leninist revolutionary was Comrade Stalin.However a more serious analysis has to be made of his grave errors.We cannot stoop down to the level of the Kasama group who virtually deride him but neither can we place him exactly on the exact pedestal that Comrade Mao and other revolutionary communist parties placed him.Surely there was need for fostering greater debate and democracy in his era and we cannot forget the wrongs of the purges.

I just reread the comments above. One says:

I would never say anything like this. And nowhere did I say your motivation was reactionary — or that you are some secret mole for the ruling class.

You are projecting views and methods on me I don’t apply.

What I pointed out was that the position is (in fact) to support the President of the United States for reelection (and he is, in fact, a warmaker). And the argument (if I understand you correctly) is that you don’t conceive of this as a concession (or support) of that wing of the ruling class — but more of a concession to certain views and illusions among the people.

I am trying to raise questions about the impact it would have if we all adopted such an approach (especially the disorienting and demobilizing of the most radical forces — who need to be strengthened not ushered back into Democratic party logics).

As for your motives and intentions: I take your own statements at face value. And assume this is a discussion among people who sincerely want radical change, and are exploiring how to get there.

Whenever I hear ‘attack’ in regard to arguments about positions, I just read it that someone has offered up a view that’s different that the one before. In brief, it’s hyperbole that’s annoying, but just let it pass and get on with the discussion at hand. Otherwise, everything gets derailed.

Come on, Mike. I’ve been doing this long enough to know the difference between a well-meaning criticism and an attack. And certainly you do too. The “criticism” says we’re throwing up a smokescreen to confuse people and hide our real position, which is actually to work for the war-makers. That’d be right-opportunism that you’re accusing us of. Who are the FRSO cadres that are working for Obama? Where are they? What are they doing? Normally, I would not encourage you to name names, but in this case there aren’t any. I think you’re “criticism” is dishonest. You admit your “criticism” was hastily written. Maybe you’re shooting from the hip? As for there being plenty of room to correct it, well, here we are.

I’m not sure why you thought it was “an attack”, Josh. These are major issues for all of us. I presented my views and disagreements with it (quickly in an into) but as usually we published (as you pointed out) the whole analysis in order for readers to be able to see it in context and make their own analysis. Who else has republished and circulated your position… and offered it for discussion? There is space there for a respectful discussion — and if you think someone has misunderstood your position there is plenty of room for correcting that.

As for my views (and the views I share with others):

Yes, I don’t agree with supporting the warmakers of this Whitehouse. Yes, I don’t agree with supporting those who sent the FBI crashing through leftists’ doors. I don’t support the government that has deported more people than any other.

We should oppose the crimes of imperialism, but (as revolutionaries) we should also oppose the leaders of imperialism, the electoral system of imperialism, its state and its policies.

I don’t see how calling for voting (and working for) Obama does anything but confuse the people and confuse sincere revolutionaries.

And the trend continues… If you check the latest economic data it’s the middle class that took the hardest blow during the crisis. They had the real estate and it lost most of its value. The richest had stocks and stocks regained their value.

Stalin’s achievements are undeniable, but so are his crimes. he bought the progress of his nation and its economy with totalitarian and millions of innocent deaths, which replaced Lenin’s fledgling workers state with a dictatorship, not built upon the achievements of the people but of Stalin. i would have preferred Lenin to rule instead of him and perhaps history would be different if it had been so.

Any comparison between Lenin’s New Economic Policy and the China’s market “Socialist” economy is faulty. Lenin’s Soviet Union remained a dictatorship of the Proletariat. China on the other hand actually has Billionaires as members of the Communist Party. 97 of the 153 members of the World Trade organization recognized China as a free market economy. China has 115 Billionaires, and that number continues to grow! China is absolutely not Socialist in any regard.

Trotskyism is nothing but defeatist anarchy in disguise. Followers of Trotsky claim him to be champion of “worldwide revolution” theory, but this is basically a Marxist theory known from the time of Marx. What Trotsky has proposed can be called as “overnight worldwide revolution”.
As per this theory, all revolutions around the whole world, at least in a continent should be started together otherwise the world imperialist force will gather against the revolution and will crush it, basically defeatist and in short incapable to understand that win of workers in one country means win in a single front. Common sense military strategy says that first accumulate the conquered area and then make a stronghold there and advance for next front. Instead, trotskism howling for starting war in all fronts together and basically meaning defeat at the end, that’s why defeatist anarchist.

It’s available on the web, Amazon, for example, but this mass market paperback now runs about USD 30. :( It’s a classic and it would be great if Anchor ran another printing of it.
