PFLP: So-called “settlement freeze” is merely a deceptive cover for settlement building and war crimes

The following is from the website of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

Comrade Jamil Mizher, a member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that the so-called “settlement freeze” announced by the fascist Netanyahu regime is simply a tactic meant to deceive the world and attempt to cover up the war crimes of the occupation.

Furthermore, Comrade Mizher said on December 3, 2009 in his interview with Jerusalem Net News Agency, the position of the United States on the so-called “settlement freeze” is simply the continuation of its scandalous and notorious firm strategic alliance with the Zionist occupation. He demanded that the Palestinian Authority stop all forms of direct or indirect “negotiations” with the occupier, saying that such meetings and negotiations, as always, only provide a veneer of legitimacy to the criminal occupation regime.

He noted further that this was part of a tactic devised between the U.S. and the occupation state, saying that “it appears that the occupying power has agreed to a U.S. request to freeze settlement building, while it continues to build settlements” and Judaize Jerusalem. He called upon all Palestinian forces not to be deceived by this U.S/Israeli effort to drag the Palestinian people back to the fruitless and dangerous path of “negotiations” and “peace process.”

Instead, comrade Mizher stressed the need for a comprehensive review of the entire so-called “peace process,” urging its complete rejection in favor of a Palestinian strategy based on national constants and national rights, based on the needs of the Palestinian people rather than reliance on illusions about the U.S. role, particularly that of U.S. president Barack Obama.

He said that the Palestinian people instead should be relied upon, for their unity and steadfastness in the face of occupation, emphasizing the need to end internal Palestinian division and support resistance to the occupation. He urged that no response be given to this Israeli maneuver given cover by the U.S. administration, saying that our Palestinian national rights – to end the occupation, to self-determination, for Palestinian refugees to return to their homes – must be implemented rather than “negotiated” away in exchange for false “settlement freezes” and occupation “concessions.” Comrade Mizher said that the so-called “peace process” and the destructive Oslo path served for over 15 years to strengthen the occupation’s presence on Palestinian land and expand its settlements while miring Palestinians in a political trap.

In addition, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a call on December 3, 2009, denouncing the continuing occupation crimes in the city of Jerusalem and its attacks on the Arab, Muslim and Christian presence in the city as war crimes, ethnic cleansing and flagrant violations of all international, human rights and humanitarian laws and standards.

It denounced official Arab and international weakness and complicity with these crimes, including settlement building, the theft of thousands of Jerusalem residents’ status and right to live in the city, home demolitions, bannings and closures of organizations, and state terrorism against the Palestinian Arab people of Jerusalem, and called upon all Palestinian, Arab and international institutions to place all forms of pressure and sanctions upon the occupier and take action to stop these ongoing crimes.

The PFLP statement closed by reiterating the call to end the so-called “peace process” and the dead-end road of Oslo and embrace Palestinian national unity and resistance which alone can protect our national rights and stop the occupation’s crimes against our land and people.
