PFLP congratulates Bolivian people and President Evo Morales on re-election

The following is from the website of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine congratulates the people of Bolivia, the Movement Towards Socialism, and President Evo Morales on his re-election on December 6, 2009. The re-election of President Morales is another proud step by the Bolivian people to build social justice, resist U.S. imperialism and hegemony and determine their own destiny.

The government of President Morales has struggled mightily to fulfill the needs of the Bolivian people, nationalizing major industries, including its natural gas industry, and rejecting the rule of elites and exploiters, returning control of the Bolivian people’s land and resources to the people themselves. It has recognized the rights and self-determination of the indigenous people of Bolivia, pursued land reform, and worked to build social justice on a path towars socialism. These elections today serve as a further statement that the Bolivian people will defend their rights and their control over their natural resources as riches for the people, not for foreign exploiters.

Furthermore, the Bolivian people and their government have shown and continue to show their steadfast willingness to confront U.S. hegemony and imperialism, to build a common front with the people of Venezuela, Honduras, Ecuador, and people throughout Latin America that has made the continent an example and inspiration to the people of the world in standing against hegemony and imperialism, reclaiming their resources, their independence, and their united strength.

The stance of the Bolivian people amid the aggression on Gaza, cutting relations with Israel and rejecting its ambassador, was a strong statement of solidarity with the Palestinian and Arab people and we salute the Bolivian people’s solidarity with our people and our cause. We look forward to continuing to struggle together against our common enemy – imperialism and hegemony – and for our common goals of justice, freedom, democracy and socialism.
