The following article is from the website of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:
A rally in Ezbet Abed Rabbo, one of the most devastated areas in last year’s Zionist assault on Gaza, organized by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine marked the one-year anniversary of the aggression on December 25, 2009. Thousands of residents of Abed Rabbo and members and supporters of the PFLP rallied in the village, amid the ruins of destroyed homes, waving Palestinian flags and PFLP banners.
Comrade Muin Khadr opened the rally as attendees chanted for Gaza, Palestine and the PFLP and sang Palestinian national songs.
Comrade Jamil Mizher, member of the Central Committee of the PFLP, delivered the main speech at the rally, recalling the martyrs who fell during the aggression, and declaring that “the whole world must see that amid the rubble and the ruins of destroyed buildings and amid the tents, that Gaza and her children, despite the pain, grief and enormous sacrifices, have only been made stronger, more committed and steadfast.”
He detailed the history of the aggression, recalling the nearly 1500 martyrs who fell and over 5000 wounded over the three weeks of bombing, including the killing of entire families, and the deliberate targeting of Gaza’s infrastructure and economy. He denounced the vicious siege, ongoing to this day, as a continued war against our people that has blocked rebuilding and only continued the psychological, economic, and physical impact of the war against of our people.
He paid tribute to the legendary steadfastness of our people, and the strength, cohesiveness and solidarity shown by our people in Gaza, as well as the strong support of our people in the West Bank, and Palestine 48, and throughout the camps and in exile around the world. He recalled that the Arab masses and millions around the world rallied in support of our people, even as official international complicity and direct involvement by the U.S. in the massacres continued.
Comrade Mizher said that the aggression on Gaza was one of the most heinous crimes against our people since Al-Nakba in 1948 and was an attempt to break the will of our people and break our resistance as a means of subjugating our people and forcing us to our knees to accept imposed “solutions.” “Despite the crimes and great losses, the burning white phosphorus weapons that poured down on the children of Gaza did not achieve their ends,” said Comrade Mizher – the people of Gaza were not subjugated, the brave resistance continued to confront the aggression, and continue to stand steadfast today.
He called for Palestinian national unity and an end to the division that only benefits the occupation, saying that a unified resistance front is a necessity. He warned against the dangers of losing years of national gains earned through struggle, saying that the energy and commitment of all is needed to achieve our liberation.
Comrade Mizher emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of Palestinian political strategy, including an official declaration of an end to the “self-rule” phase under the Oslo peace process, particularly ending any security cooperation with the occupier as well as all negotiations. He emphasized the need for real national unity in order to work together to end the suffering of our people and break the siege and rebuild Gaza.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine is committed to fight occupation and division, and serve as a national alternative that upholds the resistance and the rights of our people in confrontation of occupation, so-called interim solutions, security cooperation with the occupier, and division. He said that all must mobilize together to uphold the rights of our people and reject occupation and tyranny.
Abdel Muhti Abed Rabbo spoke on behalf of the martyrs of Abed Rabbo, saying that the PFLP’s role has always shown a sense of national responsibility to the Palestinian people. He called upon the world to hear the calls of Gaza as people remain amid rubble and tents one year after the aggression of the Zionist war machine.
In addition, the Martyr Fayez Za’anin Organization held an event on December 24, 2009, honoring the many comrades who contributed to the success of the 42nd anniversary central rally in Gaza, attended by Comrade Mizher, as well as Comrade Dr. Rabah Muhanna, member of the Political Bureau of the PFLP and leader of its branch in Gaza. Comrade Muhanna called for greater development of the party’s work with the masses of the people, while Comrade Mizher presented greetings from imprisoned Comrade Ahed Abu Ghoulmeh and all of the prisoners in Israeli jails, led by General Secretary Ahmad Sa’adat.
