More Mass Rallies in Democratic Korea as Crisis Deepens

The following article is from the Korean Central News Service:

Rallies Held to Condemn Anti-DPRK Smear Campaign

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) — Mass rallies took place in North Phyongan, Jagang, South Hamgyong and Ryanggang provinces on June 1 and 2 to denounce the U.S. imperialists and the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors for their smear campaign against the DPRK.

Mass rally in Pyongyang's Kim Il Sung Square, May 30, 2010.

The rallies were attended by officials of local party and power bodies, social organizations, organs at different levels, industrial establishments and farms, working people and youth and students.

Reporters and speakers there said that due to the unprecedented campaign of the south Korean warmongers and the U.S. imperialist aggressors to escalate the confrontation with the DPRK, the situation on the Korean Peninsula has become extremely tense, adding that the hideous farce orchestrated by the enemies is little short of an open declaration of a war against the DPRK.

They expressed full support for the statement issued by a spokesman for the DPRK National Defence Commission, the statement issued by a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea, a crucial notice released by the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army and a statement issued by a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in which they solemnly declared the DPRK’s principled stand to protect the security of the country and nation in view of the prevailing grave situation.

They stressed that all the people of the DPRK are now fully ready to react to the enemies’ “punishment” with merciless retaliatory blows and mete out a stern punishment to the heinous war maniacs.

They expressed their firm resolutions to devotedly defend General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the destiny and future of the country, and protect dignified Korean-style socialism, united close around the headquarters of the revolution.

The Korean people will bring about fresh miracles and innovations in every work-site for building a thriving nation in the transparent spirit of defending the country and thus once again demonstrate their indomitable stamina displayed in the crucible of the Songun revolution, they declared.

Apparently in South Korea, too, a good part of the population saw Lee Myung Bak’s cynicism. As a result, he was handed a decisive defeat in the recent election, even though the crisis was clearly intended to help him in that very election. Despite the hold on the South Korean media of people like Lee, even many South Koreans were not convinced by this charade of a report. Many asked, if the investigation was serious, why the North was not included in it. But even among those who were taken in by the report, there is little stomach for war with the North.

  2. The value to me and class conscious proletarians of this news and socialist organs such as the Marxist Leninist is inestimable. I wish I were not a low income American wage slave, and had money beyond the immediate needs of my survival to give. Lacking that, I use my voice and my keyboard, and links to articles such as this in spreading this information, and in defining capitalism’s evils to as many of my community as possible. Living in the American midwest as a socialist I am in an extreme minority. This however is not a limiting factor, it is instead a pregnant opportunity to advance the socialist idea. I have no doubt that the declining standard of living and increasing police state oppression in the USA will be the principle instruments of instruction to the American masses as to the failed nature of the capitalism that most of them are presently deluded by. The socialist tendency is inevitable to reason and compassion. Capitalism’s depravities are all set to ultimately produce it’s own gravediggers.

Again, I want to praise the work of The Marxist Leninist. You of this organization are right on and express the correct ideology and purposes of the revolution.

The Russians have concluded the sinking was probably a matter of a friendly fire accident from the South Korean-US exercises in the area:
