Venezuela: New moves to build people’s power

The following article by Federico Fuentes exploring some of the developments in the ongoing National Democratic revolution in Venezuela is from Green Left Weekly

“The free, sovereign and independent homeland of our dreams will only come true if we radicalise the process and speed up the transition to socialism”, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez wrote in his March 14 weekly column “Chavez Lines”.

The Venezuelan government has launched a number of initiatives in recent weeks aimed to tackle threats to the revolutionary process — including from elements within the pro-Chavez camp that seek to undermine plans to deepen the revolution.

A. Leontiev on the Leninist theory of Imperialism

“Imperialism, the Eve of the Socialist Revolution of the Proletariat” is Chapter 9 of Political Economy: A Beginner’s Course, a classic Marxist-Leninist textbook by Soviet economist A. Leontiev from the late 1930s. This textbook provides one of the best introductions to Marxist political economy, and this chapter in particular provides an outstanding introduction to the Leninist theory of imperialism. Iraq: Elections under the barrel of the occupier’s gun

The following analysis by Kosta Harlan is from Fight Back! News:

Parliamentary elections took place in occupied Iraq on March 8 as rockets and mortars slammed into the Green Zone and U.S. military bases across the country. The U.S. government and its allies in occupied Iraq have hailed the election as a victory for democracy (Newsweek went so far as to write “Victory at last” across the cover of their latest issue), but the reality is anything but. The elections are nothing but a continuation of the same illegal, unjust occupation political process that began when the U.S. invaded and overthrew the anti-imperialist Iraqi government in 2003. The latest election only serves to consolidate the existence of a puppet regime loyal to the U.S. occupation.

PFLP: One year after aggression, resistance is necessary to break the siege on Gaza

The following is from the website of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

The resistance and steadfastness of the people of Gaza remains powerful and strong one year after the criminal war and aggression on Gaza, said the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine on December 26, 2009 in a statement marking the first anniversary of the assault. The occupation massacres claimed the lives of nearly 1500 Palestinians and wounded and displaced tens of thousands, demolishing tens of thousands of homes which still await reconstruction today.

The Front’s statement said that “it is clear to all, month after month, and year after year, that the words of the United States about ‘peace’ and ‘negotiations’ are nothing more than meaningless sweet talk, false promises, and cheap attempts at bribery of our people while the occupation steals our land, violates our rights, slaughters our people.” At the same time, the noise of the so-called ‘peace process’ only hides the crimes of the occupier and serves as a mechanism of the Zionist occupation and its strategic ally in Washington to block our Palestinian internal efforts to end the division, restore national unity, and uphold our national rights, said the Front.

FARC commander Alfonso Cano greets Continental Bolivarian Movement

The following is a rough English translation, done by Google Translate, of the original Spanish, “Movimiento Continental Bolivariano: una necesidad política de alcances estratégicos“, a letter sent by Alfonso Cano, Commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (FARC-EP), the largest Marxist-Leninist organization in Colombia, to the Constituent Congress of the Continental Bolivarian Movement. The Congress took place on December 8th in Caracas, Venezuela. Around 950 people from 26 nations formed the Continental Bolivarian Movement, a regional association to advance the interests of working people and to defend the continent against imperialist aggression.

Continental Bolivarian Movement: a political need for strategic implications

Fellow American and Caribbean attend this historic event, comrades: received the enthusiastic greeting of the Secretariat of the General Staff, the staff corps and the FARC – EP, as well as all members of the Bolivarian Militias .

Establish a continental political movement, the Bolivarian essence, just as the American empire deploys its military force in Colombia and has, threatening, their machines of war and terror against American and Caribbean peoples, is not only a historical necessity, but an urgent duty , marking the horizon of the fighting unity of our peoples to defend their dignity, independence, history, values, culture, territory, human resources, natural wealth and the inalienable sovereign right to shape its future.

Iran: U.S. imperialism drops another rock on its feet

The following analysis is from the website of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist). See also “Imperialism and Iran’s Election” (June 25, 2009) from Fight Back! News, the newspaper of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

Washington has spent the whole of 2009 trying, and failing, to compromise Iranian sovereignty and drive Iran from her chosen path of development.

It did its damnedest to use the June presidential elections to replace Ahmadinejad with Moussavi, a leader more in line with imperialist interests. When America’s favoured candidate was roundly defeated at the polls, Washington claimed, without a shred of evidence, that the election was a fix, and on the back of this Big Lie sought to engineer yet another ‘colour revolution’.

When this too failed – thwarted by widespread popular support for Ahmadinejad’s policies on national sovereignty, energy security, state ownership of key economic sectors and assistance to the poor – Washington predictably reverted to its old trick of crying ‘Fire!’ outside the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The following statement is from the Freedom Road Socialist Organization, and is being reposted here from Fight Back! News:

No to the Escalation, End the Afghanistan War Now!

Freedom Road Socialist Organization denounces the escalation of the bloody and unjust U.S. war in Afghanistan. We condemn the decision made by the White House and Pentagon to ‘surge’ over 30,000 U.S. and NATO forces into Afghanistan in an attempt to stabilize a failing occupation regime.

George Galloway on the People’s Republic of China’s 60th Anniversary

George Galloway (MP) speaks at Saklatvala Hall, Southall, on 3 October 2009, at a meeting organised by the Hands off China campaign to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese revolution, and founding of the People’s Republic of China, on 1st October 1949. He celebrates China’s liberation from imperialism and feudalism; her rise as a power that will soon enable her to veto the aggressive actions of U.S. imperialism creating a more balanced, multi-polar world; and asserts that China is socialist. For all these reasons china deserves our support and admiration and we celebrate her 60th birthday!

George Galloway gave an excellent speech to a packed hall of well over 100 party members and friends of China. CPGB-ML Chairaman Harpal Brar and central committee member Keith Bennett also addressed the meeting, as did Councilor Ma Shin of the Chinese Embassy and Dr. Jenny Clegg.
