With June 2010 marking the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of US imperialism’s bestial war against the Korean people, which, over the ensuing three years, claimed some four million lives, tensions remain high on the Korean peninsula, involving not simply a confrontation between the socialist Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the north on the one hand and the United States and its south Korean ally on the other, but also sharply increased tensions between the USA and China.

Growing contention between China and US imperialism

The following is from the British anti-imperialist and Marxist-Leninist journal, Lalkar:

In the first four months of 2010, relations between the United States and China have never been out of the headlines for long, reflecting the complex and multi-faceted relationship between the world’s leading imperialist power on the one hand, and the world’s leading developing (and socialist) nation on the other; the relationship between that bilateral relationship and international relations as a whole; and the potential for confrontation between the two nations that exists across a broad swathe of issues.

Prachanda visits China

Here are two interesting articles about the visit of Prachanda, Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and Prime Minister of Nepal, to the People’s Republic of China. Prachanda went to Beijing to attend the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games. There he met with China’s President, Hu Jintao, and China’s Premier, Wen Jiabao. The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) is leading a revolutionary coalition government to build a new Nepal following a decade long people’s war.

BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here on Sunday with new Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as Prachanda, discussing bilateral relations and the Beijing Olympic Games.

Congratulating Prachanda on his swearing in as prime minister, Wen said China respected the social system and way of development Nepal had chosen according to its situation.

He believed it would realize political stability and economic development through joint efforts of all political parties and under the leadership of Prachanda, who was here to attend the Games closing ceremony on Sunday evening.

China and Nepal were good neighbors and China was satisfied with the current development of bilateral relations, Wen said. He noted China would work with Nepal to further the reciprocal cooperation in various fields and benefit the two peoples. Continue reading
