One year after the People’s Victory in El Salvador!

On Sunday, March 14, the streets of San Salvador once again filled with red t-shirts, hats, bandanas and FMLN flags to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the victory of the FMLN’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Mauricio Funes and Salvador Sánchez Cerén (March 15, 2009). In a speech before the crowd of 25,000, historic leader of the FMLN and current Deputy to the Central American Parliament Nidia Díaz declared, “Today we reassert the effort and the heroism of thousands of compatriots that continue fighting and those that gave their lives, without which this victory would not have been possible.”

Jose Maria Sison: Help the people of Haiti, reject U.S. military occupation

Fight Back News Service is circulating the following statement by Professor Jose Maria Sison, Chairperson of the International League of People’s Struggle.

More than ever, the earthquake disaster in Haiti exposes the social vulnerability and devastation caused by two centuries of colonial slavery, debt bondage and modern imperialism. The capability of the people of Haiti to surmount the dire results of such a natural disaster has been undermined and debilitated by man-made disasters, inflicted by foreign debt, US military interventions and occupation, and US-imposed “free market” policies.

On 12 January 2010, a magnitude 7 earthquake shook the Caribbean nation of Haiti, its epicenter hitting west of the capital Port-au-Prince. The quake and its numerous aftershocks have wrought death and injury to a huge number of people and catastrophic damage to their homes and other vital infrastructures.

Jose Maria Sison: End Monopoly Capitalism to Arrest Climate Change

The following statement, “End Monopoly Capitalism to Arrest Climate Change” by Jose Maria Sison, Chairperson of the International League of People’s Struggle:

Human societies have created the bases of our survival, sustenance and advancement through the use of our natural resources in production with rudimentary tools and rising levels of science and technology. Yet in no time in history has environmental destruction been systematically brought about in most parts of the world.

The people of the world face today global poverty, economic wars and environmental crises. They are confronted by an escalating, more rapacious and vicious campaign of plunder by monopoly capitalism. This aggravates the already devastated and polluted natural environment.

The massive dumping of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere by the operations of monopoly capitalist firms in the energy industries, manufacturing, transportation, industrial agriculture, mining, construction, etc. is now generating climatic changes that are causing massive devastation and loss of human lives around the world.
